Call it prescience, or Call it VS Naipaul

Naipaul on Arab Spring:

Because, Respect dear reader, has to be earned.

It’s not begged, borrowed or imposed.

It’s not the fashionable;

it’s not the crowd, it’s not the fake nor the spurious.

It has to stand on its own.

Because, it comes from where other great things we know- love, passion, beauty, innocence, strength, justice, courage – come from. Courage, to disagree with millions, courage to stand ridicule, courage to stand being dismissed as a vain old fool.

Courage to see what things are for what they are, not what and how they ought to be.

Courage to sit in a flat in Kensington, at 80, and see clearly through a world without causes and consequences, without desires or lacks

Courage indeed and strength of character too, but (in my opinion) circumstances in early life shape a lot of these late insights. I see more and more how people’s histories so unassumingly shape their future personas…

Hi Prashanth,

If you follow his writings, he had written about many a things even when young. He is, fairly and as humanly possible, objective in his assessments.
